The Joxer Film Review of Rampage.

Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and with a stellar supporting cast including Naomie Harris and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Rampage is a “Monster, Sci-fi” film very loosely based on the old video games of the same name.

The Rock plays a primatologist at a San Diego wildlife preserve, who’s main ape friend at the preserve [George] is genetically transformed into something very large after debris from a crashed scientific space lab lands nearby. The corporation [Energyne] behind this less than ethical science project then go into action to try and cover up all their misdeeds whilst the FBI and authorities close in on them. George must be eliminated before the truth is found out but is it too late to stop it and George [ and other mutated creatures] from wreaking havoc on Chicago?

Only The Rock and a few friends can save the day!

This wonderfully bonkers and quite brilliant film will have you laughing like a loon [intentionally or not] from Beginning to end.

It is not afraid to poke fun at itself and it lets the ridiculousness of it all run amok as giant apes and flying wolves battle for supremacy over Chicago, which like all films in this genre is soon reduced to a pile of rubble as all hell breaks loose around it.

I found myself grinning from ear to ear as The Rock hams it up something rotten as the main lead character, whilst Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays his role from The Walking Dead but as a cowboy sheriff instead and knows exactly how to play to the audience.

The real star of the show though is the CGI which makes George look quite realistic and the interaction between George and The Rock is very believable.

The action and the comedy comes at you thick and fast whilst the ludicrousness increases to a max for the brilliant finale of the film that will have you in hysterics at the preposterous fight scenes and the OTT acting which are a pure delight.

A film, that doesn’t for one instance takes itself serious and let’s you enjoy the ride with it is already one of my favourite films of the year so far.It’s in the same vein as last years Kong: Skull Island and is just as enjoyable.

I left my cinema seat at the end feeling thoroughly entertained.

Well worth a viewing with a big box of popcorn and a proper Saturday afternoon matinee movie that will become a future guilty pleasure for anyone that sees it..
