Directed by Travis Knight and starring Charlize Theron,Matthew Maconaughey,George Takei and Art Parkinson in the title role,Kubo and the Two Strings is a stop-motion animation about a boy with magical powers who goes on a quest with his friends Beetle and Monkey to stop The Moon King and The Sisters from destroying his village and taking over the world.
The film is an excellent tour-de-force of its art form and is a jaw dropping experience from beginning to end, with a top notch voice cast that enthrall and excite the audience and keep it gripped in the palm of it’s hand. You can feel the passion that the creators of this film have put into the project as every image leaps out of the screen at you and with a witty script that will appeal to audiences of all ages to back it up this film is one of the better animations of the year.
The music is top notch and the scares [and there are a few] will keep you on the edge of your seat and the children entertained, coupled with the charm of the cast reaching out and taking you on the journey with them you feel the awe as Kubo and his friends reach the final battle with The Moon King..
The only drawback is that it wasn’t available in 3D in my neck of the woods but I imagine that you will get the full effect of the animation if you can see it in that format..
